I just came across this poster that reads “Find what you love and let it kill you” which to some of you may find a little morbid, however that’s how I’ve been feeling with my work lately. The quote comes from German-born American poet, novelist, and short story writer Charles Bukowski. After a little research, I found out that his writing was influenced by the social, cultural and economic ambience of his home city of Los Angeles.
From a design aspect, it’s a nice looking poster and the use of typography is interesting. A lot of posters lately use a mix of multiple fonts, sometimes with minimal attention to how they’re used. This uses 4 different fonts/font styles, however the fonts are used in similar ways: for example ‘love’ and ‘you’ use the same font and style, bringing unity to the piece.
By breaking down the quote itself, it really connected with me. I’ve immersed myself into the design field over the past few years and I’ve found what I really love. As of typing this post, I currently have a full time design job, I do freelance web/graphic design after work, I’ve launched my first set of my own clothing line and I’m working on starting a new business to help enrich the local creative community. My life is consumed by design and I don’t see that ever changing. I will work as hard as I can to do as much as I can in the design field. Find what you love and immerse yourself in it, you’ll be glad you did. (via SerialThriller)
